BOTTOM LINE: KCTV5 is heralding the fact the station has landed the traditional Plaza Lighting Ceremony for the next three years. KMBC had broadcasted the event the past several years and wanted to continue, but was outbid by the Kansas City CBS affiliate. The challenge now for KCTV is generate sufficient advertising revenue to justify the cost. The Thanksgiving evening event has been around since 1930 and has grown a bit tired over the years. While the backers throw out attendance numbers as high as a million, every year Hearne Christopher Jr. of the Kansas City Star writes a column saying the real attendance is about 10% of that. 08-27-2008
