"Impacting YOUR bottom line..."

Summary:  It was a very bad weekend for Andrew Yates, the producer of the Chris Stigall Morning Show on KCMO-710 AM.  First, his car was hijacked while he was washing it Saturday night in Overland Park.  Then on Sunday morning the Kansas City Star skewered Pastor Jerry Johnston and the First Family Church for questionable financial dealings.  Yates is the paid orchestra leader at the church.  07-23-2007

Update (07-26-2007): Yates was asked on the Stigall show about a recent carjacking that was thwarted because the driver was carrying a concealed weapon.  Did he wish he was armed when his car was carjacked?  "In my case, I was out of my car and one of the guys already had a gun pointed at my head," said Yates, adding, "There was a part of me that wanted a gunfight..."

Two carjackings may be linked
Overland Park police are trying to solve two similar carjackings that took place less than a block apart. Although the suspect descriptions differ, police believe the crimes could be linked.
We have to look at the possibility that these crimes are connected, Weaver said. We have to look at whether it is the same person or possibly these two guys are working together and sharing the same gun.
The most recent robbery happened at 9:45 p.m. Saturday at a car wash at 10400 Marty St. The robber approached the victim, raised his shirt and pulled out a silver handgun. He stole the victims wallet and his gray 2007 Ford Freestyle.
That robber is described as black, 5 feet 9 inches tall with a thin build. He wore a baseball cap and faded blue jeans.
A similar robbery happened two days earlier and less than a block away at the Minute Shop, 103rd and Marty. A robber pulled a silver gun from underneath his shirt and stole a mans white 2006 Toyota Corolla. The robber also took wallets from the victim and another man in the victims car. He fled with a second man who got into the victims car carrying a case of beer.
The armed man was described as black, between 20 and 30 years old, 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighing 200 to 225 pounds with short braids that were twisted. He wore a white T-shirt and blue jeans. No description was given of the man who left with the gunman.

Police investigating third Overland Park carjacking

Overland Park police are investigating the citys third carjacking in a week and authorities said there are similarities between the three crimes.

The latest robbery happened about 11:20 p.m. Tuesday night in the parking lot of the Mr. Goodcents Subs & Pasta restaurant at 91st Street and Metcalf Avenue. A man was sitting in his black Escalade talking on a cell phone when a blue car with three individuals in it pulled up behind him. One of the men got out and approached the Escalade, demanded the vehicle and pointed a single-barrel shotgun at the driver. The victim complied and the suspect fled in the Escalade. The blue car also fled.
