KCSP PROGRAM DIRECTOR TALKS ABOUT RATINGS

KCSP Program Director Ryan Maguire discussed the chart below and the issue of whether his station carrying the KC Royals games has made a major difference in ratings:
"I think the stats in this chart are pretty clear and clears up a lot of misconceptions about our standings in the ratings," Maguire told Bottom Line. "Do Royals baseball broadcasts help our cause?  Certainly.  They bring a lot of ears to the radio station.  But we’ve had the Royals on 610 the last 3 seasons, and never seen numbers this high.
   "
The difference is in the local talent we have on the station now. Bob, Danny and Nick are able take a larger portion of the audience the Royals bring into 610 and keep them here. If you look at our 3 local shows individually, the number of listeners in their time slots have grown significantly from a year ago.
"There is clearly a growing trend that shows us that more and more listeners like what we have to offer them."
(See below for what WHB is saying about this rating controversy.)

KCSP 'MOST LISTENED TO STATION IN KC SPORTS HISTORY'
As reported here (6/15), sports talker KCSP-610 is highlighting its victory over long-time sports talk leader WHB-810 in the recent Arbitron Portable People Meter (PPM) ratings.
In a chart (right) sent to key media outlets, Entercom's KCSP is now saying it is the "Most Listened to Station in KC Sports History," noting that 249,500 adults 18+ listen to the station each week.
While some can debate whether certain ratings are more important than others, there is no debating the major swing in ratings KCSP has experienced in the past few months.
KCSP has not responded to a request to comment on the ratings. However, Greg Hall has some interesting views on his blog, GregHallKC, regarding the ratings debate between the stations (
LINK).

For the first time, WHB insiders seem upset with the way KCSP is heralding its ratings victory, calling them "Royals numbers" and that WHB still dominates the numbers for individual shows when they go head-to-head with KCSP hosts.
"You might also call over to Entercom and have them provide you a list of all their advertisers on 610 that buy Persons 18+," said a WHB insider. "The complete list is in brackets below."

(                   )

As far as KCSP being the "most listened to station in KC history," WHB has problems with that statement saying 6+ numbers are never considered by advertisers.
"I do find it, however, to be impossible that this 6+ number is higher than when we had the Royals games.  That's gotta be impossible."
