MARK ALFORD'S SON GETTING EXPOSURE FOR ART
M.A. Alford, a senior at Lee's Summit North High School and son of WDAF-FOX4 morning anchor Mark Alford, is receiving more exposure these days thanks to a piece of controversial art he recently designed.
M.A., who will be heading to Pepperdine University in the fall, used 50 condoms and a doll to highlight the issue of teen pregnancy for an exhibit called "Sex-Ed: A Progressive Art Installation" featured May 3rd to May 7th at Lee's Summit North High School.
In an interview with KCMO-710's Chris Stigall (5/4) Alford said his art teacher was not very "keen on the subject," but said if he could get the administration's approval it would be okay. In fact, he noted his parents were not initially wild about the idea, but when they read his artist's statement they felt better.
M.A. Alford has his own Web site:
http://www.wix.com/majr13/fresh.
"To those who find the piece offensive he says so is the alternative, 'it’s also offensive that we have all these pregnant women, pregnant girls at our school that are teenagers that haven't been properly educated, and I'm kinda offended by that as well,' Alford told KSHB-TV41 (ironically) on its site (LINK).
