03-25-2010 KC STAR REPORTS 'A ROLLING DISTURBANCE....' Is it a new politically correct way for the newspaper to report individuals in one car opening fire on others in another car during an argument? The Kansas City Star is reporting an incident where two people were shot (one individual's injuries are considered life-threatening) as a "disturbance." Instead of a reporting it as a horrendous crime on a street where innocent people could have been harmed, the Star made it sound more like the cars had loud mufflers. Or maybe hit a mailbox. Or lit firecrackers. "2 Men Shot in Car" was the way KMBC reported it; "2 People Shot in Moving Car" was the headline on KSHB's site; "Person Shot in Head After Rolling Gun Battle" was posted by WDAF-FOX4, and KCTV reported it as "Rolling Gun Battle Ends with 2 in Hospital."
03-26-2010 NOBODY ACCURATE "Gun battle implies both sides fired guns. Only one side fired, so TVs "headlines" weren't even accurate. It was a drive-by shooting that stemmed from a disturbance in the McDonald's parking lot."
