BOTTOM LINE EXCLUSIVE
JERRY FOGEL TO UNDERGO HEART SURGERY
Jerry Fogel, one of the most popular radio talk show hosts in Kansas City history, will be admitted to KU Medical Center Tuesday for a heart catheter and then undergo double heart valve replacement surgery on Wednesday (2/24).

The heart surgery is the latest in a series of health issues affecting Fogel, who is still recovering from four rounds of chemotherapy that were completed late last year after being diagnosed with lymphoma in September 2008.
"I must say, it's rather disconcerting to find that I had to have health issues to have my name 'broadcast' again," he says, "but as long as it's spelled correctly it's OK by me!!"

Jerry’s son David, who recently landed a major position with WLS-FM in Chicago, has delayed his start there to be with his father.

Part of the talented duo of (Mike) Shanin and Fogel for years in Kansas City, Fogel is upbeat about his health issues.

"I will say that each day I end up on the right side of the grass is OK by me!" he says with a laugh. "Am I having fun yet?"

Fogel, who attended West Point with the Class of 1959, still gets together with Shanin as much as possible. He says he still misses radio, which first started at Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT in
1953 until his "retirement" in 2001.
During that period was a successful acting career in Hollywood where he starred in TV series the "Mothers-n-Law" and "The White Shadow" in addition to guest starring on many more shows.
