KCFreePress.com will go live on Dec. 8

12-02-2009
BOTTOM LINE EXCLUSIVE
KCFreePress.com SET TO DEBUT NEXT WEEK
A new Web site is set to debut Wednesday, Dec. 9, in Kansas City as a talented team of writers and editors have come together to form www.KCFreePress.com. (Visitors can sign up for e-mail updates prior to the site going live.)
The site, which will have an editorial mix that focuses on features, arts and entertainment at launch, will utilize an advanced Web platform that allows its editors to incorporate video, audio and photo galleries into stories.
"What will really set us apart from other publications in Kansas City will be the multimedia presentation of our stories," says Jay Senter, editor. "More and more people are getting all of their news and info online, and we're looking to cater to that audience by creating an editorial product that takes full advantage of all the tools the Web offers.
"We're going to come at reporting with a 'Web-first' mentality that I don't think exists here now."
Senter, who has worked at the Lawrence Journal-World, will join a talented staff in starting the site.
Other staffers include Publisher Jeff Henry, who owns the local online marketing firm BIGSHOT; Editor-in-Chief Lucas Wetzel, who previously worked at Andrews McMeel and writes the blog www.lucubrations.net; Lifestyle Editor Emily Farris, who has written for Gourmet.com, and had a cookbook ("Casserole Crazy: Hot Stuff for Your Oven") published in 2008; Calendar Editor Abbie Stutzer; and Photo Editor Jennifer Wetzel.
In addition to the content produced by the editors, the site plans on using about 15 freelancers to cover events and news in the metro area.
    KCFreePress.com is headquartered at
524 Walnut St., 3rd Floor, Kansas City, MO 64106 (816) 471-7526.
