KMBC ASKS KU PLAYERS TO COMMENT ON MANGINO SETTLEMENT
KMBC-TV9 crossed an unwritten line by trying to get University of Kansas football players to comment about the school's settlement reached with their former head coach Mark Mangino.
In a report anchored by Nick Griffith (12/16), KMBC attempted to get players to comment on whether they felt the $3 million settlement with Mangino was fair. It is generally considered improper for reporters to ask players to discuss business issues, particularly regarding their recently terminated (resigned) coach.
Only one player responded to the ridiculous request.
Receiver Kerry Meier, who was on the team that Mangino took to an Orange Bowl victory in 2007 seemed startled by the question. He recovered and said that Mangino did a good job and likely deserved the payment.
