KMBZ & KMBC FORM PARTNERSHIP
Newsradio 980 KMBZ and KMBC Channel 9 have teamed up to provide news, weather and traffic coverage in Kansas City on a 24/7 basis.
The veteran reporters at both stations will be covering stories viewers can watch on Channel 9 and also hear on NewsRadio 980 KMBZ.
"This partnership means now you can get everything you want, everywhere you go," said KMBC News Director Sherrie Brown.
Channel 9 weatherman Joel Nichols, who did full morning reports on KCMO-710 until the station cut his time (and pay) last year, will now give weather reports from 5 a.m. to 9 a.m. on "The Morning News" with E.J. Becker and Ellen Schenk on KMBZ.
Johnny Rowlands will continue to bring traffic and weather reports "on the 9's" from Newschopper 9.

CONVERGENCE IS FUTURE
"Convergence. It is the future. If print media operations join in this new wave they might just save their hides.
"Wouldn't it be great to have a news gathering company that had TV and Internet for breaking news and ongoing updates; radio for some of the same plus talk commentary and call-ins and print products (a couple times a week or a weekly news mag format) for in depth analysis?"

A GREAT DEAL FOR BOTH
"Joel, who never got around to getting his weather certification, isn't so bad. He's personal enough doing the government forecasts... and let's face it, they're pretty darned good, too. So I don't have a prob with Joel rather than Stormey and 'new data' 41 bald guy.
"I think the bottom line is that a marriage of KMBZ and KMBC is a great deal. The best radio station and the best TV station, I'll be paying attention."  Radioman

WHAT ABOUT WEEKENDS?

"What does this mean for the weekend news operation on KMBZ? And, perhaps more severe weather coverage on KMBZ on weekends???"
