09-01-2010 KMBC PUTS SILLY SPIN ON ROBBERY STORY Two armed men wearing masks attempt to rob a gas station around 6 a.m. in the morning. The station clerk pulls a gun on the two hoodlums and starts firing. The would-be robbers run out of the store and no one is hurt. It's a good-news story. The brave clerk was heralded as "the hero of the day who saved my life," according to a female customer. However, for some strange reason KMBC-TV felt it was necessary to ask the question of whether the clerk would be charged with a crime for using excessive force. What? According to KMBC, "Authorities said the clerk likely will not face charges, saying he acted in self defense." Viewers were likely stunned that the issue would even be raised. KSHB never mentioned anything about the clerk being charged in its coverage. WDAF and KCTV did not have the story on their Web sites.
09-02-2010 PERPETRATORS AS VICTIMS "I get the spin. And while I'm not a news director, producer or writer, I do agree with bringing up this angle. These days, we all know that perpetrators can be victims too after all. Right? ---Mike T.09-02-2010

"BTW... John, is there any other 6 a.m. if not in the morning? (LOL!)"
