Coliseum Sports Performance to Host SPARQ Testing Combine for High School Athletes & Teams June 1 at Blue Valley Northwest High School District Activity Center
May 14, 2008 (Overland Park, KS) High school athletes want to know: "What's your SPARQ rating?" To answer this question, Coliseum Sports Performance of Overland Park, Kan,. will be hosting it second annual SPARQ (Speed. Power. Agility. Reaction. Quickness.) testing combine on Sunday, June 1 at Blue Valley Northwest High School's District Activity Center (DAC). The "Switzer DAC" turf stadium is located at 13260 Switzer Road in Overland Park. Participation for incoming 9th-12th graders is FREE. Testing hours are from 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. This combine will specifically target boys football and boys and girls soccer players. Coaches bringing 25 athletes or more will receive a $250 SPARQ development kit. All participants take home a SPARQ shoe bag. What is a SPARQ Rating? Speed, Power, Agility, Reaction and Quickness are the essential tools for superior athletic performance. SPARQ Training is the dynamic training method used to evaluate talent at NIKE Football Training Camps. The SPARQ Rating is a number that identifies overall athletic ability and is used by top coaches and trainers around the nation as an initial indicator of an athlete's potential on the field. Athletes are encouraged to pre-register at [email protected]. Upon showing up at the DAC, each athlete will be photographed and measured for height and weight. After a supervised warmup, they'll be individually tested in these drills: Football: * 40-yard Dash * Vertical Jump * Agility Shuttle * Kneeling Powerball Throw Soccer: * 20-Meter Sprint * Vertical Jump *Arrowhead Agility Dash *Yo Yo Intermittant Recovery Test (YIRT) "We're extremely honored that SPARQ chose us to host this training session," says Coliseum Sports Performance co-owner Sean Wheeler. "Local and regional athletes will be able to get standardized SPARQ testing in a professional setting. There will be a SPARQ truck on site complete with a locker room area where athletes computerize their scores. With their testing results, they'll be able to calculate their SPARQ rating at sparqtraining.com and see where they rate against the best athletes in the country." According to J.J.Smith, Coliseum co-owner and former Kansas City Chiefs running back, last year's combine drew more than 450 athletes from the local area as well as attendees from Texas, Oklahoma, Iowa and Nebraska. "We expect bigger numbers this year because we're the only session of its kind in the midwest," says Smith. "SPARQ trained professionals handle everything from setup to registration to electronic timing. These testing results are the gold standard for college coaches across the country. If a kid wants to better his or her scores, they can come to Coliseum Sports Performance for speed training and core strengthening and re-take the tests at future combines."
