06-18-2010 JOE TONE TO ASSUME EDITOR'S JOB AT THE PITCH Joe Tone, 31, will be assuming the reins as editor at The Pitch next week, replacing 10-year veteran editor C.J. Janovy, who will be moving to a new public relations job as communications director with the University of Kansas Medical Center. Janovy, who stunned staffers and media folks with her announcement in May that she was leaving journalism for PR LINK (she had a reputation of hating disliking PR folks) has written a fond farewell column. Tone comes to Kansas City from Denver where he was with the Pitch's parent company, Village Voice Media Holdings, where he has been working as the Web Editor for VVM's Westword. Previously, he was the managing editor at Cleveland Scene, another VVM property. He joined VVM as a staff writer in Cleveland in 2004 from a reporting job at the Stockton Record. Tone is a graduate of Santa Clara University. He later received a master's degree in journalism from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University.
