07-19-2011 TONYSKANSASCITY CALLS FOR BOYCOTT OF POWER & LIGHT DISTRICT Tony Botello, the mastermind behind the area's most-read, influential and commented area blog site, tonyskansascity.com, is calling for a boycott of Kansas City's Power & Light District over the area's alleged "economic profiling." And if you doubt the influence of his site, note that he has already generated nearly 100 comments in just a few hours. Basically, Botello is very upset that the P & L District is now charging a cover fee of $10 to get into the "live" area. The fact that the fee can only be paid via debit/credit card he feels is discriminatory towards minorities and the working poor who do not have credit cards. Botello doesn't often go on crusades over issues, so this fight is well worth watching. Stay tuned...

CALLING BS ON TONY "I'm sorry. I'm calling BS on Mr. Botello on this one. My 16-year-old son has a debit card. Why? Because he was told that if he wanted to drive, he would have to pay to put gas in his 14-year-old car, which he paid me for, and pay for insurance and maintenance. "If he wants to go out and eat with friends or go to movies, he would have to pay. So, he got a job. And the money he makes, he puts into the bank, which issued him a debit card. If my 16-year-old son can get a debit card, then why wouldn't anyone with a valid form of identification be able to get one. Oooops. There's the trick, isn't it? "Besides, allowing patrons to pay in cash would be a security issue. The people collecting that money would be standing essentially in open, unprotected space. They're not behind any window or cage. On busy weekends, they would accumulate hundreds and thousands of dollars pretty quickly. "By the way, I would be classified as a minority. I just don't use it as an excuse to get what I want or allow it to handicap me in anyway." ----sgtpepe
SAME OLD STUFF "Interesting to note tkc is 'writing' the same manner of poorly thought out posts that he was 4 years ago." --Nick Charles
