Michael Vrabac

VRABAC NAMED NEW VP/GM AT KSHB/KMCI
    Michael Vrabac, a Missouri native who grew up in Kansas City and worked at KSHB for eight years, has been named the vice president and general manager at the NBC affiliate (and independent station KMCI), according to an announcement by officials at parent company E.W. Scripps. 
   Since 2006, Vrabac has led KJRH, the Scripps-owned NBC affiliate in Tulsa, OK. 
   He replaces Craig Allison, who announced his retirement earlier this month and will retire March 5. Vrabac is expected to start at KSHB/KMCI in early March and will handle duties in KC and Tulsa until his replacement is in place at KJRH.
   “Since Mike took the helm of KJRH four years ago, he has steadily and consistently increased the station’s ratings and advertising revenues,” said Brian Lawlor, senior vice president of the Scripps television division.
   “His charisma and creativity, coupled with his commitment to community journalism, will serve him well in the greater Kansas City market.”
    The new position at KSHB marks a return for Vrabac, who worked at the station for eight years until 1979, when he left for his first stint at KJRH. He left in 1994 to serve as sales director of Tulsa’s CBS affiliate, where he also had sales responsibility for Tulsa’s WB affiliate.
   Vrabac returned to Scripps in 2006 to serve as the vice president and general manager of KJRH.
   Vrabac and his wife, Mary, have three grown daughters, two sons-in-law and a grandson. Both he and his wife grew up in Kansas City.
