DID MARTIN LIE ABOUT CONTRACT NEGOTIATIONS?
Kansas State University announced Sunday (3/7) that head basketball coach Frank Martin was given a startling $9 million contract that will pay him through the 2014-2015 season.
In fact, Martin actually broke down in tears discussing his love for his players and KSU.
Ironically, Martin's multi-million dollar payday came on the heels of a blowout loss to the University of Kansas (3/3) followed by a major upset at the hands of lowly Iowa State (3/6) at Bramlage Coliseum.
In January, the fiery head coach hit KSU player Chris Merriewether during a televised loss to Missouri. It resulted in a public apology (LINK) by Martin.
Regarding his new contract, it seems as if Martin lied---or at the very least misled---Nick Wright of 610 Sports KCSP when he denied he was involved in the process of negotiating a new contract?
The day after his team's loss to Kansas (3/4) Wright did a puff interview with Martin (LINK TO PODCAST).  As the interview wound down Wright asked Martin about the status of his contract situation.
"Nick...I'm about our team, I'm about our kids....this is the time of that year when it is all about the kids," Martin told Wright. "I can't worry about my selfish needs...
"I owe it to my staff and kids not get myself emotionally wrapped up a contract negotiations...It takes emotions and I would have to separate myself from my job."
"When the time is right for me to concentrate on it I will," he told Wright.
Unless Martin and his lawyers negotiated the contract a few hours after the Iowa State upset, it seems like he may have been negotiating his contract while his team finished the Big 12 season with a thud.

YES, HE LIED!!
"Did Frank Martin lie?  YES, HE LIED!  A better question is, "Frank Martin lied; does anyone care?"  Lying about anything and everything has become so commonplace that I doubt anyone cares, besides watchdogs like you.  Thank you for keepin' it real."

MARTIN'S FUTURE TERMINATION...
"In a few years, when things are unraveling and the press is after Martin, and lawyers for Martin and Kansas State are working on a termination agreement, you can count on Martin to say something like, "Until I'm told otherwise, I'm the coach of the Kansas State Wildcats. And, anyway, I'm too busy coaching my players and getting ready for the next game to have any idea what the administration might be doing."'  - Jim Fitzpatrick

AGENTS HANDLE CONTRACTS
"Concerning Frank Martin:  Agents negotiate contracts.  Many times the coach doesn't really know what's going on until the contract is signature ready.  The coach and the agent agree on certain things the contract should contain and then the agent does his job."
