06-26-2008 WHB INTERNAL BLOODLETTING Radio is a brutal business. Talent gets hired and fired on a regular basis. However, some of the on-air talent at WHB-810, the leading sports talk station in this market, might be taking the brutality to a new level. First, WHB afternoon talker/reporter and play-by-play guy Danny Clinkscale received word from the University of Missouri-Kansas City that after seven years he was being replaced by Steven Davis, the son of KC Royals' announcer Bob Davis on the team's radio broadcasts. A somewhat angry Clinkscale told Jeffrey Flanagan (and us) that he felt that the school wanted more of a cheerleader than a legitimate play-by-play guy (UMKC Replaces Clinkscale). Clinkscale also felt that UMKC would be hurt by not having someone from WHB involved the broadcasts of the Roos' basketball games. To add insult to injury, WHB morning talkers Steven St. John and Nate Bukaty had Steven Davis on their show shortly after Clinkscale was officially fired. The duo did a total puff interview with Davis and never once mentioned their fellow co-worker Clinkscale(Duo Screws Clinkscale). But the final straw came today when UMKC announced in a news release that Steven St. John will now serve as the color commentator for its men's basketball team next season. He will join none other than new play-by-play analyst...Steven Davis. Ouch!!
