TIME FOR MISSOURI FANS TO BUCK UP AND SHOW SOME PRIDE
KC SPORTS & FITNESS
By John Landsberg, Sept. 08
The date was January 16, 1994. It is a day that will live in infamy (more or less) with Chiefs fans.
That day represented the last time the Kansas City Chiefs actually won a playoff game. Marty Schottenheimer was the head coach and the Chiefs beat Houston 28-20. Joe Montana was the quarterback with Marcus Allen at running back.
The celebration ended quickly. Buffalo crushed us the next week 30-13.
Who would have thought nearly 15 years later the dream of another playoff victory will only come via a miracle this season? Incredible for a franchise as successful as the Kansas City Chiefs.
Say all you want, but it is darn near impossible to achieve this kind of futility in the NFL. You really have to work at it to be this bad.
Weve heard the jokes about Chiefs President, GM, CEO, Lord, Master Carl Peterson and the fact he is in the 20th year of his five-year Super Bowl plan. However, despite a lack of on-field success, Peterson has raked in millions for the Hunt family. That might not be the case this year, and for the first time his job is in real jeopardy.
In the NFL when you suck you get the highest draft choices. You also get an easier schedule. The cold, hard fact is when you go this long with this little success you have achieved truly a new level of suckism.
Lets tip our hats to the Chiefs. This team has sucked long and hard and is looking at another disastrous season. With breaks can hope for a 6-10 mark. That will suck.

When you grow up in Ohio and root for Ohio State you expect the team to win every game. Kind of like the way Nebraska fans were years ago.
Thats why it is odd to see the way University of Missouri followers are acting entering this season. The team has the potential to go undefeated, but the fan base kind of acts like a Pit Bull that has beaten and hides in the corner.
Over the years Missouri teams have a reputation for being able to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. They have found a variety of ways to lose games they should have won. They could upset Notre Dame one week and then lose to the College of the Little Sisters of the Poor the next.
Missouri fans it is time to buck up. This is a powerhouse team that is virtually unstoppable.
Start acting cocky now. Enjoy the ride. You deserve it. This is your time.

Some random Olympic thoughts: The American media seemed to do everything in its power to make China look bad at these Olympics. How do you think we would have looked if the foreign media came here for the Atlanta Olympics and visited our inner cities, homeless shelters, prisons, schools, etc.? It was shameful.
If you have any doubt about what a remarkable achievement Michael Phelps did by winning eight Gold Medals, jump in the nearest swimming pool and swim a single lap. You will think you are dying. Then you can appreciate how hard he had to work to achieve his milestone.
It would be impossible to determine how much money NBC made off Phelps performances. Forty million people watched him break Mark Spitzs seven gold medal record. The next day without him the viewership dropped to 26.8 million.

Brett Favre leaving Green Bay to play with the Jets is a perfect match: a media whore in the nations leading media city. He had a chance to go out with some class, but that is not going to happen.

Sorry, but I cant stop scratching my head over Kansas State giving its head football coach Ron Prince a contract extension to 2012 after posting a sterling two-season 12-13 record. The program is so bad the Kansas City Star doesnt even have a beat writer following the team this season.
What is truly ironic is that Prince had the school buy its way out of a game with Fresno State (a sure loss) for $250,000. Since Benedictine didnt have the date open, KSU lined up Montana State for a sure victory.
Lets say KSU beats Montana State and lands a berth in the Astro-BlueBonnet-Weadeater-Panera-Gap-Viagara-Trojan-Victoria Secret Bowl. If that happens Prince gets a $100,000 bonus.
In reality it will cost the school $350,000. Smart move.

FEEDBACK (BRIAN FRAZIER) 09-04-2008

How can you critisize the liberal bias of the KC Star when you continue to show such extreme bias in your crusade to trash Kansas State.  Your repeated posts on the KC Star firing of the KSU beat writer conveniently leave out a very important fact.  The Wichita Eagle and KC Star have chosen to "share" beat writers for the 2 state schools.  You find Jeffery Martin covering the K-State beat for the Star, while the Eagle laid off their KU beat writer, and instead uses the Star KU beat writer.
Obviously a cost cutting measure for both newspapers, but hardly has anything to do with the program being "so bad" as you state in your article.  How does your sorting through the facts that you choose to report differ at all of the mainstream media sorting out the facts that they choose to report on Obama or Palin?
