Kent Babb

Summary:  It looks as if the Kansas City Star has landed another superb sportswriter with the addition of Kent Babb.   01-28-2008

BABB JOINS KC STAR SPORTS STAFF

By nearly every measurement the Kansas City Star has one of the leading sports sections in the nation. This is reflected by the numerous awards won every year by the reporters there, and the fact that nearly sportswriter who departs moves on to bigger and better things.
It looks like the latest hire--Kent Babb--is following in that tradition.  Babb joined the Star in December as the Kansas City Chiefs' reporter and his latest feature (1/28) on the career of Dennis Franchione is riveting.  Link to story: http://www.kansascity.com/sports/colleges/story/462634.html
Babb is from Spartanburg, S.C. and a 2004 journalism graduate of the University of South Carolina.  While in college he brought home two of the top awards in the Hearst National Writing Competition. His article "The Gift of Speed" won the "Best Article of the Year" in the overall competition and second place in the "Best in Student Writing Competition."
Also while a student at USC, Babb won a prestigious Dow Jones Newspaper Fund editing internship at The Sporting News in St. Louis.
Prior to joining the Star he was employed as a sportswriter at The State in Columbia, SC, where he spent three years covering South Carolina sports.
