STRATHMAN, KSHB FOCUS ON JOURNALISM The current May sweeps period has concluded and it was obvious that investigative reporter Jenn Strathman and KSHB-TV41, Kansas City's NBC affiliate, stands out as a station that is willing to do serious journalistic investigations. "Call for Action" reporter Jenn Strathman did a series of riveting pieces focusing on Chad Franklin Suzuki and the consumers who have been taken advantage of when buying a vehicle there. The car dealer has subsequently changed its named to "Legend Suzuki" (and uses former KC radio star Randy Miller as its pitchman on competing stations). Investigative pieces on auto dealerships are virtually unheard of today in journalism because they are such major advertisers. Car reviews in the Kansas City Star, which used to be legitimate editorial copy, are now under the direction of the Advertising Department. Kudos to Strathman and the station management for their willingness to be serious journalists and go out and investigate a story even if it might impact their bottom line. We understand that Strathman will continue to expose the misdeeds at the Suzuki dealership. 05-24-2008
