UPDATE (4-30-2008): The KCtalk.com blog was not mentioned on Jenn Strathman's "Call for Action" report regarding a local car dealer. Strathman will be on Darla Jaye's popular radio talk show (5/1) on KMBZ-980 (9-11 a.m.) to discuss her investigation. You can rest assured that Jaye will ask her about the kctalk controversy.
Will KCtalk get credit for KSHB sweeps piece? Stay tuned.
BOTTOM LINE: The blogosphere is churning today after the administrators of the KCtalk.com site sent an email to members advising them of a "Call for Action" major sweeps story by reporter Jenn Strathman set to air tonight on KSHB-TV41. According to the kctalk folks, the investigation of Chad Franklin Automotive (Legend Suzuki of KC) was based on posts on its blog site. The word from the station is that reporters there were working on the story several months ago before it was even on kctalk. The question now is whether KC Talk will get credit for helping to break the story. It doesn't seem likely at this point. 04-30-2008
WILL KCTALK RECEIVE CREDIT FOR HELPING BREAK STORY?
During an event held Saturday at KSHB-TV41 sponsored by the Kansas City Press Club (Press Club Examines Blogs), much of the discussion by participants focused on the belief that many bloggers feel they don't receive proper credit for stories that appear in mainstream media outlets that were based on information contained in their blogs. In fact, the moderator for the event, Steve Kaut, managing editor at KSHB, assured bloggers that his station gives credit to blog sites when information is taken from them for stories. However, when asked whether kctalk will receive credit for the Franklin story he said, "I am not in the loop on any of this." The Web site kctalk.com initially sent an email to its members (below) announcing that a major sweeps piece is set to run tonight examining questionable dealings at Jeremy Franklin Automotive. However, now one of the kctalk administrators is quoted on http://tonyskansascity.com/ saying he now feels kctalk will likely not receive credit for the scoop.
On Wednesday night at 10pm, NBC Action News in Kansas City will run an investigative story on a topic hot here at KCTalk for almost a year. After broken promises documented here on the forums DIRECTLY from the dealership to customers, and many unreturned phone calls, FINALLY victims are getting action.
With over 50,000 views, and 2,000 posts between two threads, Chad Franklin Automotive AKA Legend Suzuki finally will be exposed . . . I am also giving 20:1 odds that KCTalk get NO MENTION whatsoever from NBC even though they will take information from this site...
NOTE FROM KC TALK:
