Tess Koppelman, general assignment reporter for WDAF-TV FOX4, has been awarded the top media award for Missouri by the Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD). She won the award for all media outlets: TV, print and radio. The official awards ceremony will be held at the Capitol Plaza Hotel in Jefferson City (6/21) at a noon luncheon. MADD National President Glynn Birch will present the honor. "I'm extremely honored to be named the Missouri media award winner for 2008," says Koppelman. "MADD is tireless in its efforts to raise awareness about drunk driving, and I'm humbled the organization is recognizing Fox 4's efforts to inform the public about these issues." The 2008 MADD Media Awards are designed to recognize outstanding media coverage advancing MADDs mission to stop drunk driving, support the victims of this violent crime and prevent underage drinking. "She was nominated for the MADD Missouri Media award for her stories on DWI, Suspended Imposition of Sentences (SIS), court monitoring, drunk driving crashes, and drunk driving victim story lines," according to Budd Balke of MADD Missouri Central. "She continued to dig for facts and information on follow-ups to the stories..." Koppelman's first TV job was a high school internship in her hometown of La Crosse, WI at WXOW in 1994. She has also worked at KMSP and KSTP in Minneapolis and took her first on-air position at KOLN in Lincoln, NE.
