RICHMAN, ROCK LET GO IN KC STAR LAYOFFS Names of Kansas City Star employees who were let go during the recent round of layoffs at the newspaper are starting to leak out (see list). And the initial news is stunning. Howard Richman, 47, who has been with the Kansas City Star for 24 years, most recently as the beat reporter for Kansas State University athletics, has been let go. Co-workers in the Sports Dept. were absolutely stunned. Sources within the Sports Department say Richman was the most well-liked reporter on the staff. They report the move has caused sadness and confusion among his former colleagues. To add insult to injuray, the Star will reportedly no longer have its own beat reporter for KSU athletics, but will simply use the KSU beat reporter at the Wichita Eagle. The second name revealed was Steve Rock, who was a shining star in the Sports Dept. before assuming duties on the news side of the paper. He had been working on a part-time basis.
