The Bottom Line: The generosity of radio listeners was shown recently on KCMO-710 after a "Meals on Wheels" van was stolen in Kansas City and talker Chris Stigall asked for donations. 03-07-2008 STIGALL LISTENERS RESPOND TO DON BOSCO NEED It was one of those incidents that tends to leave the average citizen shaking his/her head over the mean-spirited actions of criminals. A couple of thugs hijacked a van (3/4) owned by the Don Bosco Center while the driver was delivering "Meals on Wheels" to needy senior citizens in Kansas City. The Center lost its van and about $2,000 in equipment. The incident struck a chord with Chris Stigall, morning talk show host on KCMO-710 AM. Last year criminals stole a van from the Boy Scouts in Excelsior Springs and he asked for help from listeners. They responded within just one hour with enough donations to buy and rehab another van. In this instance, Stigall came up with the unique idea (3/5) to raffle off quarter-hour segments of his show for $500 to assist the Don Bosco Center. He had no idea the type of response he would receive. Within 10 minutes of his on-air offer, two individual listeners gave $500 each. KCPT Ruckus pundit Woody Cozad added $1000. Another client of the radio station's "Visiting Angels" gave a full $2000. Guest began appearing on his show as early as Friday and donations have risen to more than $5,000. Don Bosco officials called the station back 20 minutes after the original show ended and said it had three offers for van donations and many individual donations. "Once again, the generosity of our show's listeners is simply incredible," says Stigall. "When folks hear of a need in the community they respond."
