Bottom Line: It is one of those statements that arises every St. Patrick's Day in Kansas City.  Veteran KMBC reporter Micheal Mahoney (whose wife is the spokesman for the parade) proudly announces that the St. Patrick's Day Parade in KCMO is "the second-largest parade in the country."   And every year his statement is completely bogus.
It is reminiscent of when city officials annually gave out manufactured figures for the city's annual Thanksgiving Plaza Lighting ceremony.  Each year the figures continued to inflate until KC Star columnist Hearne Christopher Jr. quoted a professional counter who said the figure was really about 1/4 of what had been reported.  Now the media ignores any attendance figures.   03-17-2008

KC'S ST. PATRICK'S DAY PARADE SECOND LARGEST IN COUNTRY? BLARNEY!!!

The leading St. Patrick's Day parades include:  New York, Boston, Savannah, (GA), New London (WI), Dallas, Cleveland, Birmingham, Jackson, (MS), Houston, Chicago, Cincinnati, Kansas City, Rolla, Philadelphia, Indianapolis, Pittsburgh, Denver, St. Paul, Sacramento, San Francisco, Scranton, Seattle, Butte, Detroit,  Syracuse, Newport, Holyoke.
