WHITLOCK'S KC STAR SALARY AT $350K?
The Big Lead (http://thebiglead.com/?p=6296), an independent sports blog, has compiled a list estimating the top paid sports journalists in the nation and pegs the Kansas City Star's Jason Whitlock's salary between $250-$350,000 per year.
When you add in his salary from Fox Sports it pushes him into the $550-$650,000 range and places him as the eighth highest-paid sportswriter in the country.
The list comes out in the midst of major
layoffs at the Star due to declining revenues.

PITCH SAYS WHITLOCK WORTH EVERY PENNY...
The Pitch's Chris Rasmussen has written a nonsensical column saying that Jason Whitlock is worth every penny the KC Star is paying him.  We are not permitted to reprint Pitch materials over the threat of legal action, but this is the link to the story:
http://blogs.pitch.com/plog/2008/06/why_jason_whitlock_is_worth_th.php
We agree with one of the comments that noted Whitlock is not even the top sportswriter at the Kansas City Star.  That honor goes to Joe Posnanski, who has been recognized nationally several times as the "Sportswriter of the Year."
