04-22-2010/04-24-2010
FORMER KSHB MORNING ANCHOR HOBBS ARRESTED
Roy Hobbs, who was a morning anchor briefly at KSHB-TV from 2005 to 2006, has been arrested in Birmingham, AL for possession of crack cocaine and a crack pipe.
He has a court appearance scheduled for May 10.
Hobbs had been a weekend anchor/reporter at Birmingham's ABC 33/40 since October 2006, where he is now on temporary leave.
A group of Black Journalists is asking members to pray for Hobbs. Hobbs founded the Houston Chapter of the National Association of Black Journalists.
According to a story in the Birmingham News, "the arresting officer had stopped Hobbs in the 6800 block of First Avenue North on a previous occasion with a known prostitute, suspended license, and no proof of insurance, according to an arrest report.
"The officer gave Hobbs a warning and let him go. The same officer saw Hobbs in the area again Friday. This time he was alone, the report stated.
"When asked what he was doing in the area, Hobbs said "he was looking for a girl," the report states.
"The report said Hobbs admitted to having crack-cocaine under the driver's seat. The report states he was under the influence of drugs."
A Chicago native, Hobbs has worked for several stations around the country, including UPN 38/New England Cable News in Boston, WAPT-TV in Jackson, Miss., KBMT-TV in Beaumont, Texas, and KTRK-TV in Houston. He anchored for Atlanta's WAGA-TV from 1997 to 2003, worked in 2005 and 2006 at KSHB-TV in Kansas City, and joined the Birmingham station in October 2006 as reporter and weekend anchor,
