12-18-2009 MEDIA DUPED IN REPORTING EARLY DEATH OF NFL PLAYER The Web site Gawker.com (LINK) has outlined exactly how a person with a fake Twitter account successfully duped several members of the national media who reported the death of NFL football player Chris Henry, 26, fully 12 hours before he actually died. "The Henry death scam was, as these things go, relatively sophisticated, perpetrated by a scammer who went to the trouble of changing his screen name to "Gerry," calling himself a "Sports Reporter for Dallas Morning News," and attaching a picture of real-life Morning News columnist Gerry Fraley, plus a link to Fraley's page on the newspaper's website. Link to entire story and actually "Tweets" that reported Henry's death.
