"Armageddon at Arrowhead*" PERFECT STORM: ESPN'S 'GAME DAY,' RABID MU/KU FANS AND BEER AT ARROWHEAD *Phrase stolen from Jason Whitlock, KC Star
'Game Day' Crew in Action
SUMMARY: Columnist Jeffrey Flanagan of the Kansas City Star reported that the biggest pre-game event in college sports---ESPN's "College Game Day"--will be at Arrowhead Stadium for the upcoming "Border War" football game between the hated rivals. The event provides fans with a reason to start drinking early in the morning about 12 hours before the 7 p.m kickoff. Unlike a normal college game beer will be available during the game and KU and MU fans will be interspersed throughout Arrowhead Stadium. Here's hoping there is enough security to handle the potential perfect storm. 11-18-2007
Posted on Sat, Nov. 17, 2007; Jeff Flanagan, KC Star Beer will be flowing for KU-MU showdown Not that this Saturdays Missouri-Kansas game will need any primer, but yes, there will be beer available for sale at Arrowhead Stadium. KU associate athletic director Jim Marchiony said all three parties KU officials, MU officials and Chiefs officials discussed the alcohol issue and decided to give it a thumbs up. Its not as if fans from both schools wont be partying it up all afternoon in the parking lots anyway, but We know Arrowhead has some solid policies, Marchiony said. We just wanted to make sure that security would be sufficient and were still talking about that, but we feel comfortable about it. As for the policies, Chiefs media relations director Bob Moore said: Same rules that apply for a Chiefs game will apply for this game, Moore said. Two per person with ID. If its a day game, beer cutoff is after third quarter. Night game, after halftime.
