Rebecca Shelton

WHERE ARE THEY NOW?
REBECCA SHELTON HAS NOW SPICED UP HER LIFE
She was considered one of the most hard-nosed journalists to ever descend on the Kansas City area.
Cross Rebecca Shelton at your peril.
Shelton began in journalism at the University of Missouri-Kansas City where she immediately published a series of controversial and ground-breaking stories in the university paper.
    After interning at the
The Kansas City Star, she went on to hold a variety of positions with a number of publications during an 18-year journalism career:
                    The New Times (defunct)
                    Overland Park Sun
                    Independence Examiner
Johnson County Business Times (editor, defunct)
Kansas City Kansan (editor, defunct, except online)
Johnson County Business Ledger (publisher, defunct)
                    Hiawatha World

Today, Shelton, who once served as the president of the Kansas City Press Club, has changed her career entirely and is the manager of Penzeys Spices in downtown Overland Park. The store carries 275 spices and seasonings.
In addition, Shelton, who is also in school to become a personal trainer, has changed her name to "Rebecca Tombaugh" after tying the knot with her long-time boyfriend, Doug, on September 18.
She was recently featured in a story and video by the Lawrence-Journal World proving there is life after journalism.

QUALITY JOURNALISM
"While her tenure as editor of the Kansan was not as bright as it might have been owing to her publisher's gutless attitude towards the UG (didn't help, they pulled the legals anyway), her work as a reporter during Roy Teicher's tenure as editor was outstanding.
  "
Her work during that period stands as mute testimony to the fact that, even with few resources, newspapers can continue to produce quality journalism if they just let their reporters write objectively about what they see in front of them.  While tomorrow is always another day in the pursuit of a livelihood, it's a shame that talented reporters like Rebecca choose to leave the profession."  ---
